As of July 12, 2010, Maine is a closed record state (pursuant to MRSA Title 22 Section 2706) and identification is now required in order to obtain a vital record. If the record you are requesting is not an open record (Birth - 75 years or older; Death - 25 years or older; Marriage - 50 years or older) you must show proof of direct and legitimate interest.
All checks (sent to either the Maine State Archives or to the Department of Human Services) should be made payable to: Treasurer, State of Maine. Please enclose a self-addressed, stamped business envelope with any orders.
